Since 2011 20 U.S States have been supporting what is called Denim Day on April 23rd.
Denim Day was created due to a rape case in 1999 in which the Italian High Court overturned the case due to a pair jeans. A Driving instructor picked up and 18 year old female for her first driving lesson…but then he preceded to rape her for over an hour.
This young women was brave enough after being threatened to tell her parents and press charges… The worst part was how the court decided he was innocent… It was said that because she was wearing very very very tight jeans the instructor could not have gotten them off by himself and thus must have needed the girls help to do so. Since she had to help the driver get them off then it was consensual sex not rape.
CONSENSUAL RAPE DOES NOT EXSIST.
Much protesting happened after the court ruling and denim day was born to remind everyone that this kind of out look on sexual Assault is simply NOT OK.
No one is asking for it and nobody wants it.
Nobody wants their body, mind, self-respect, safety, power, and self-worth taken from them by anyone else.
Today is day that we are reminded to fight and stand up for those taken advantage of. Sexual Assault is something that happens everyday and this is simply NOT OK.
I ask that today everybody takes time to think about what Denim Day is really all about… It’s a day in which we remember to fight back against the injustice that takes place.
SEXUAL ASSAULT IS NOT OK. SO LET’S NOT MAKE IT OK.
